News, Views and Info by, for, and about the Great Undecided
The 2004 Presidential election is, at the time of this writing, too close to call. Major news media do a great job at concealing information from voters. Many independant news outlets are clearly biased in one direction or the other. A great deal of Bush-bashing or Bush-praising can be easily found. At Undecided.com, we try not to preach to the choir.
A lot of factors contribute to voters remaining undecided. Many 'swing voters' may not even vote, in the end, either because they cannot find enough simple, un-biased information upon which to base a decision, or because they cannot be bothered to participate in a process which they see as flawed, and their participation futile.
Whether you yourself are an undecided "swing voter", or you have an interest in undecided "swing voters", hopefully the information which has been gathered here can help you in furthering your quest for understanding, and, hopefully, making the right decision for you at the ballot box.
This website is intended for "swing voters", or for people who are interested in "swing voters". "Swing voters" are the undecided - unlike the vast majority of Americans, they have not yet made up their minds who they might vote for in the upcoming Presidential Election. Many may not decide in time to cast their ballot - and that couldn't be a good thing.
Information can be difficult for the undecided to find. Mass-media tends to cater to their audience, and, given that there are a whole lot more people who either love Bush or hate Bush, will not waste their precious resources catering to the desires of 'swing voters'.
Large media outlets in the US tend to present a very un-balanced, pro-Bush stance. The reasons for this are varied, and will be examined in some of the articles posted at Undecided.com. Small, independant media outlets tend to present a very un-balanced, anti-Bush stance, perhaps because that gives them the opportunity to cater to the other very large group of voters, those who may feel alienated by Big Media.
In any case, it can seem to undecided voters that there is no debate, there are no issues to discuss, there are only sound-bites that attack or praise the candidates. Why bother to vote, if all you can find to influence your decision at the ballot box are sound bites and firmly rooted opinions?
So we hope to present something useful and different with Undecided.com. We will look at the factors which contribute to low voter turnout, the despair that leads so many voters to not even care who to vote for, and look at some of the issues and events that could help 'swing voters' feel informed, but that other media outlets don't feel express the interests of their target audience.
